2016 Monthly Short Films
JANUARY
The first in a what will become a monthly series documenting my year in Albany. January focuses on my first afternoon in downtown Albany and the many beautiful pieces of architecture I was able to encounter in the capital of New York State.
MAY
The fifth installment in my monthly adventures around New York State. What started as an exploration of the Capital Region has expanded into my trips around the state. This month was inspired by rediscovering Howard Zinn and his in depth, eye opening speeches he gave.
SEPTEMBER
The ninth installment in my exploration around New York State. Followed a friend while working on a photography project through Schenectady, NY.
FEBRUARY
Second short film documenting my year in the Capital Region. A quiet afternoon in Troy, New York leads to a peaceful walk through a mini New York City.
JUNE
The sixth part of my monthly series of journeys across New York State. Spent some time hiking to Lucifer Falls just outside of Ithaca, New York. In a month marked by tragedy, its important to get back to nature and look for the bright spots in the world.
OCTOBER
A trip to Chicago is overtaken by the Chicago Marathon. The tenth installment in my monthly films documents the marathon and the experiences of being in Chicago in a much needed trip away from New York.
MARCH
The third short film in my series documenting my year in the Capital Region. As spring approaches you see the city of Troy slowly awakening. Reflecting on our place in the world with the words of Alan Watts.
JULY
The seventh piece of my monthly exploration of New York State. A combination piece exploring transportation and its obstacles in our daily lives. This is emphasized by the true heat of this summer. Rights to "Jazz Man Speaks (Maple Leaf Rag)" and "Lonely Cry in Manhattan" belong to Jon Batiste and Stay Human. No rights are implied by their inclusion, just used as an exercise.
NOVEMBER
After this election year it seemed appropriate to reflect on the history of our country and the ways in which we can respond to it. Howard Zinn remains one of the voices I most look to in regards to American history and so this eleventh installment in my monthly saga reflects an America that still has work to be done.
APRIL
The fourth part of my monthly exploration, this one taking a slightly more political tone as the New York primary is on April 19th. A morning spent wandering around downtown Syracuse, NY, putting together a small slice of life with a bit of support for Bernie Sanders.
AUGUST
The eighth installment in my monthly series exploring New York State. August focuses on the nearly abandoned commercial buildings just down the block in the Village of Menands, just outside of Albany. You can see a community once thriving and now trying to come back into relevance.
DECEMBER
After a long year filled with ups and downs, its nice to sit back and enjoy the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. And no city embraces that holiday spirit quite like New York.
Miscellaneous fILMS
TOWER
To say downtown Syracuse has seen change over the past couple years is an understatement. In my life time I haven't seen this much activity and rebirth in this city. One of the iconic parts of the Syracuse skyline is coming back in a big way, being completely renovated as a gleaming symbol for what is happening to the city center. Walking by on a warm April day, it was inspiring to see so much activity transforming the State Tower Building. I wanted to document this progress to show what a different feel its already giving the neighborhood.
LIFE SUSPENDED
Took a walk through Green Lakes State Park on a frigid winter day only to find some truly spectacular sights fitting of Holst's haunting interstellar music.
THE EVERSON
Syracuse, NY is blessed with a world class art museum. Not only is it filled with beautiful ceramic pieces and other forms of art, but the building itself is a beautiful piece of art in its own right. On a cold winter's day I was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon wandering this beautiful collection and wanted to share the art I experienced.
